Spreadsheet Server Ribbon

Query Designer's many functions are accessed through its ribbon. This article describes the Product ribbon.

  • To add a function to the Quick Access Toolbar, right-click the desired function, and select Add to Quick Access Toolbar.
  • If the Quick Access Toolbar is hidden, right-click anywhere in the ribbon, and select Show Quick Access Toolbar below the Ribbon. If desired, right-click again, and select Show Quick Access Toolbar above the Ribbon, to change the position of the toolbar.

See the following table for more information about the available functions in the Query Designer Ribbon:

Menu Item

Description

File Tab:

Returns the user to the landing page. If any modifications have been made to the current query, a save prompt appears.

Home Tab:

The main menu used to maintain and execute queries.

Save

Saves the current query. The first time a new query is saved, the Save As dialog box appears (see Save a Query for the First Time for more information).

Save As

Click the drop-down list, then, Save As, to save the query to a different target location and/or file name.

Show Table List

Allows the user to add an available table from the current connection.

Toggle Totals

Toggles to display or hide the Totals column, used for totaling and grouping (see Create a Totals Query for more information).

Run Query

Executes the current query, and returns all records.

Tip: Pressing F5 in the SQL window can be used as a shortcut to execute the query.

Test Query

  • Executes the current query, and returns the first 1000 records.
  • Click the drop-down list for more additional return options.

Run Summary

Executes the summary query.

Query Options

Click the button to make additional query options available.

Settings

Opens the Spreadsheet Server Settings panel, allowing the user to define various criteria, to control processing (see Query Designer Settings for more information).

View Log

Opens the Log Viewer panel, where the user may view information and error log entries, copy selected log entries, email, or clear the log file (see Spreadsheet Server View Log for more information).

Query Exchange

Opens insightsoftware's online query depository, Query Exchange, allowing the user to download queries to Query Designer (see "Download Queries from Query Exchange" in the Spreadsheet Server User Guide for more information).

Tools Tab:

The menu used to manage connections.

View Test All Connections

Opens the Test Connections panel, allowing the user to view and test connections to which the user is authorized (see Connections for more information).

Update All Query Connections

Opens the Update All Connections panel, allowing the user to modify all original connections assigned to queries, to a new connection.

Update Connections by File Opens the Update Connections by File panel, allowing the user to modify a file assigned to a query, to a new connection.
