Custom Layout Editor

Custom Layouts allow the user to modify the output (for example, which fields display, and the order of the fields) when a GEXD formula is generated in Excel, without having to modify the query in Query Designer.

Note: If assigning or modifying a custom layout for an existing GEXD, previous data may be lost and column formatting may change.

Assign/Create/Modify a Custom Layout to a GEXD Formula

  1. From the Formula Builder > GEXD panel, click Create or Edit beside Custom Layout.
    • To create a new layout, ensure the Custom Layout field is blank, and click Create. The Custom Layout Editor panel appears.
    • If custom layouts exist for the query in the workbook, the titles of the layouts appear in the Custom Layout field drop-down list. Select the layout to edit, and click Edit. The Custom Layouts panel appears. Continue to step 3.

  2. In the Custom Layouts panel, type the desired name for the new layout in the Layout Name field.
  3. Use the following table to enter data in the Custom Layout Editor panel. The single arrows move the selected field between the Available and Selected columns. Double arrows move all fields between the columns.
  4. Field

    Description

    Query Name

Displays the name of the selected query.

    Layout Name

Displays the name to be assigned to the custom layout.

    Available Fields

Indicates possible fields that can be included in the results, when the GEXD formula is generated.

    Selected Fields

Displays the name of selected fields for the query.

  5. To modify the order of the fields, drag-and-drop a field to the desired position in the list.
  6. Click OK. The system creates or updates the custom layout for the query, and the name of the custom layout in use.

Remove a Custom Layout from a GEXD Formula

From the Formula Builder > GEXD panel, click the Custom Layout drop-down list, and select the blank value.

Remove a Custom Layout from the Workbook:

  1. In Excel, from the Spreadsheet Server Ribbon, select Tools > Custom Layouts. The Custom Layout Manager panel appears, listing all custom layouts in the workbook.
  2. Select the desired layout to be removed, and click the Trash icon.  A confirmation panel appears.
  3. Click OK. The system removes the custom layout from all GEXD formulas in the workbook, and deletes the custom layout.
