View or Refresh Global Cache

Global caching with Redis Technology is available, and requires that both a Redis database and the Global SmartCache WRT component are installed on a server.

When GXL or GEXQ formulas are submitted to the cache for calculation, the system returns the Pending value. Pending items may be automatically refreshed in the workbook based on the option in the user's Spreadsheet Server Settings.

View or Refresh Global Cache

  1. In Excel, from the Spreadsheet Server Ribbon, click View Cache. The Global Cache panel appears displaying cached records.
  2. To view cache records that are pending, in progress, completed, or failed, select accordingly:
    • View Completed: view completed records in the cache.
    • View In-Process: view currently caching records.
    • View Pending: view pending cache records.
    • View Errors: view failed cache records.
  3. To reprocess current records in the cache during an Excel session:
    • Reprocess All Items: reprocess all records in the cache for the current user.
    • Reprocess All Items All Users: reprocess all records in the cache for all users. This option is password protected. Contact insightsoftware for more information.
    • Note: After reprocessing the items in the cache, the system does not automatically refresh the balances in the workbook. In order to update the balances in the workbook with the reprocessed values, users must select Recalculate from the Spreadsheet Server Ribbon

  4. To refresh the account balances in an Excel session, the cache records must be cleared:
    • Clear All: clear all records in the cache.
    • Clear Selected Rows: to clear selected records, select the desired records in the grid.
    • Clear Selected Sheet: to clear the cache of a selected worksheet, click the drop-down list, and select the desired worksheet.
  5. After the cache records have been cleared, the system assigns a default Recalculation Option. If necessary, click the down-down menu, and select a different recalculation option. These options are:
    • Trigger Excel to recalculate workbook(s) after closing Global Cache
    • Trigger Excel to recalculate worksheet(s) after closing Global Cache
    • Do Not Trigger Excel to recalculate after closing Local Cache
  6. Click Close.
  7. See General Grid Features for more information.

Automatically Trigger the Global Cache Refresh

In Excel, from the Spreadsheet Server Ribbon, select Cache > Clear Cache and Recalculate. The system recalculates the global cache.

Clear and Recalculate Cache for Current Sheet

In Excel, from the Spreadsheet Server Ribbon, select Cache > Clear Cache and Recalculate > Current Sheet. The system clears and recalculates cache of the current sheet only.

Clear and Recalculate Cache for Selected Cells

Select any cells in a sheet, then, from the Spreadsheet Server Ribbon, select Cache > Clear Cache and Recalculate > Selected, or, right-click and select Spreadsheet Server > Clear Cache and Re-Calc Selected Cells. The system clears and recalculates the cache of the selected cells only.

Use Buffering in Global Cache

If using Global caching with Redis Technology, balances from different periods with the same account key may be returned from an internal buffer to speed up processing, based on the option in the user's Spreadsheet Server Settings. When buffering, the Clear Buffer option appears in the Cache drop-down list in the Spreadsheet Server Ribbon, allowing the user to clear the internal SmartCache buffer.
